First salaried officer

 
From 1999, Deborah M Jones has been employed part time by CCA, first as Development Officer and then as General Secretary and Editor of The Ark.
For several years she shared her time with CCA with working as Deputy Editor for the journal of pastoral theology Priests & People and as a writer of homilies for Living Word and Weekday Living Word for Redemptorist Publications. Starting as a teacher of English and Classical Civilisation at an Essex Comprehensive school, her former work also includes being Editor of the national newspaper The Catholic Herald; Director of Adult Religious Education for the Diocese of East Anglia; Lecturer in Religious Studies (p/t) at the Suffolk College of HE/FE; and Administrator of the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology, Cambridge.
She has a first degree in English and Classical Studies, a Masters in Pastoral Theology, and a Doctorate in Philosophy (Animal Theology). She is a Fellow of The Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics; and has served on the Committees of Ministerial Formation, and of Theology, of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales; the Catholic Theological Association of GB; The Severn Forum, and of the Association of Adult Religious Educators. She is patron of and consultor to the Christian Vegetarian Association UK, and has written several books, including Focus on Faith (Kevin Mayhew) and The School of Compassion: a Roman Catholic Theology of Animals (Gracewing).
